The Importance of Integrating Security Subsystems with PSIM

March 7, 2023

In addition to safety subsystems, PSIM (Physical Security Information Management) software can also integrate with various security subsystems to enhance the overall security of a building. In this blog post, we'll take a closer look at some of the most common security subsystems that can be integrated within Sky-Walker, our Open Integration Platform, and how they work to prevent and respond to security incidents.

security subsystems that can be integrated in Sky-Walker PSIM platform

Access Control Systems

Access control systems are essential for controlling who has access to a building and its various areas. When integrated with PSIM, access control systems can provide real-time updates on who has entered and exited the building, as well as the status of access control systems. This level of control increases the overview of the occupants in the building(s) and allows the control room operators to make sure an evacuation can be completed without having to guess whether someone is still in the building.

Example Incident

An unauthorised person attempts to enter a secure area of a building. The access control system denies access, and the event is recorded in the PSIM software. Building management is notified of the incident, allowing them to respond quickly to ensure the security of the building and its assets. When other subsystems such as CCTV are integrated as well, an investigation can be started to see who was trying to enter the secured area.

Video Surveillance Systems (CCTV)

Video surveillance systems are crucial for monitoring the interior and exterior of a building in real-time. When integrated into Sky-Walker, video surveillance systems can provide live feeds and recorded footage, allowing building managers to respond quickly to incidents and monitor the security of the building. A deeper analysis of all sorts of incidents is possible, and this analysis can be conducted centrally.

Example Incident

An individual is seen acting suspiciously on the premises of a building. The video surveillance system captures the individual's actions, and the event is recorded in our Open Integration Platform Sky-Walker. Building management is notified of the incident, allowing them to respond quickly to ensure the security of the building and its assets. An easy-to-use interface represents the only necessary source, allowing a quick and efficient approach.

Intrusion Detection Systems

Intrusion detection systems are designed to detect unauthorised entry into a building. Intrusion detection systems can trigger an alarm in Sky-Walker, which can then send out notifications to on-the-field personnel that can respond quicker than ever. Allowing your security workflow to restore the daily workflow.

Example Incident

An intruder attempts to enter a building through a window. The intrusion detection system triggers an alarm, and the event is recorded by Sky-Walker. Building management is notified of the incident, allowing them to respond quickly to ensure the security of the building and its assets. Thanks to a mix of integrated security subsystems, you can now conduct an investigation to make sure such events can be prevented in the future.

Perimeter Protection Systems

Perimeter protection systems are designed to protect the exterior of a building from potential threats. Thanks to Sky-Walker, perimeter protection systems can provide real-time updates on the status of perimeter protection systems and trigger an alarm in the PSIM software in case of a breach.

Example Incident

An individual attempts to climb over a building's fence. The perimeter protection system detects the breach and triggers an alarm, and the event is recorded in the control room. Situational awareness increases thanks to the clear interface, allowing cooperation with every subsystem necessary to deal with the event. Building management is notified of the incident by an alarm, allowing them to respond quickly to ensure the security of the building and its assets.
