PSIM Situational Awareness

PSIM Situational Awareness

A PSIM software platform is the cockpit to all your systems

What is situational awareness?

A simple way of defining situational awareness, is being aware of your surroundings. When you are aware of your environment, this means that you have knowledge about all assets and people in the location that require your attention. The exact meaning of being situational aware differs for different job profiles. Imagine for example a commercial pilot. The pilot must be aware of the status of their aircraft, altitude, fuel and safety of the passengers. For the air controller however, being aware of the situation means having knowledge about all the commercial aircraft in the sky, their flight routs, their estimated times of arrival and so on.

If we use this analogy for organizations that require a PSIM platform, we now know that every organization must determine what situational awareness is to them. For a public library, an extensive CCTV network can be needed to be aware of what’s happening in each public area. For a chemical plant however, temperature readings, technical alarms and so on can be required to be truly aware of what’s happening.

How can a PSIM software platform maximize situational awareness?

The ultimate goal of a PSIM software platform is to integrate all existing, and useable systems into one, extensive tool that will maximize security, safety and comfort. Minimizing possible risks and threats to both the security of assets and the safety of people is a must. Installing and using a PSIM software platform, like Sky-Walker, will give the security and safety operators more tools to do their job correctly.

By using floor plans with multiple systems on them, operators know for example exactly which systems are available in a certain room. This is especially important when the operators are in charge of monitoring a building that is not known to them, because the building is in a different city, county or even country.

PSIM Software can close the gaps in situational awareness

The synergy effect of integration

Many organizations already have a lot of technologies and security systems in place. But by having them operate next to each other instead of with each other, a lot of security and safety opportunities are missed.

An operator has to gain access to all these systems simultaneously to truly be aware of everything that’s happening regarding safety and security.

Shift the operator's focus

If operators do not longer need focus on every type of alarms and events, they would have more attention for the things that matter.

By using a PSIM software platform, many alarms and events can automatically trigger certain processes, without the need of an operator. The operator should only focus on making the decisions only a human mind can make.
